Whither nude models?
[no value]

[no value]
As mentioned many times in POPULAR PHOTOGRAPHY, the nude is one of the most interesting subjects to photograph. Where does one who is new in the professional field of photography go to photograph the nude? Are there any studios one can go to, for a fee, each time they visit New York City?

Why photography is a great life for a man
A photographer who made $50,000 a year before he was 30, tells how men with an aptitude for taking pictures can break into this exciting, well-paid field
[no value]

Bert Stern
I think photography offers one of the best opportunities for men who want to live an exciting life and make money too. And I’m not just saying it. I have been a photographer since I was 21, and I wouldn’t trade my profession for any other. My camera has enabled me to travel to fascinating places, meet outstanding people, live a life of freedom and independence.

Photography seems to be one formula after another: formulas for exposure, formulas for processing, and formulas for lighting. Why then can’t there be a formula for making a successful glamor picture? I have one, but I call it an unformula formula because so much is left to the imagination:

The summer months are always very active ones for photographers, according to the statistics of the photofinishers. Although the bright sunshine is indeed conducive to good picture making, every time the temperature gets into the 90s and I find myself working with a view camera, I wish I'd stuck to 35-mm work exclusively.

When I record from the radio by connecting the recorder input across the speaker terminals I sometimes get excellent sound but at other times I get severe distortion and hum. Why? There are several possible reasons. One is that you may have connected the recorder’s ungrounded lead to the grounded speaker terminal.

DUBBING DEVICE. You can redub sound to two (or more) recorders, or simultaneously dub and monitor, by plugging in a double headphone adapter to the recorder’s output jack. The adapter, which in no way affects the recorder’s performance, provides the convenience of two output jacks.

I was out in Hollywood the other day, shooting a movie at Universal .... Well, would you believe the movie was being shot with a Bauer Cl Super 8 camera—while I was one of about 8,000 tourists visiting the studio that afternoon? Universal opened its doors to the sightseeing public two years ago this month, and, with the encouragement and support of American Airlines, the 410-acre moviemaking city has become one of the West Coast's most popular tourist attractions.

Why meter readings vary
[no value]
[no value]

CORA WRIGHT KENNEDY
One of the vagaries about photography is that everybody talks about the correct exposure, yet different meters often give significantly different readings for the same subject. If this information is disturbing, don’t rush off to the nearest repairman to have your meter checked—even though your readings generally lead to satisfactory negatives and transparencies.

The family is the most photographed part of American life but visualized the poorest. Of the millions of family pictures made each year very few penetrate the surface. Awards in photography over the years have been aimed at glorifying the giver more than the receiver and for this reason most have been bordering on the meaningless. Recently we noted that one university that gave out three my-best-friends-awards in photography that weren’t worth the dust that they will be gathering in the next few months.

Wake up and take a new look at Kodak Plus-X Pan—perhaps the most underestimated film of our time. This is no mere fine, medium-speed film for outdoor shooting. to he stretched to bright available-light use when necessary. In a true sense it is a great film for all shooting conditions, from bright illumination down to poor available light, even the ultra-dim kind in a coffee house where there isn't enough light to read comfortably.

I have a Nikon F with a 50-mm f/1.4 Nikkor lens. I plan to buy an enlarger. May I safely use this lens in the enlarger with good results or should I buy an enlarging lens?—Louis A, Allen, Palo Alto, Calif. From an optical point of view it would be better to buy a special enlarging lens.
