Dear Sir: The article by Fritz Henle in the December issue of POPULAR PHOTOGRAPHY aroused my interest no little—I think he is doing a fine bit of plugging to dispel the notion that color transparencies for reproduction must measure several inches on the short side.

GETTING ready for our first annual exhibit left a few of us with additional gray hair, or a little less hair, but it did produce some funny stories. RONNY JAQUES returned to the office one day looking completely unnerved. While crossing Fifth Avenue, quietly minding his own business, he’d been descended upon by MARTIN HARRIS, who was in the kind of rage he does so well.

ETNA M. KELLEY
DO MUSICIANS and photographers have the same aptitudes? That they have is only a theory, but there is strong evidence to support it. It might be merely coincidental that so many photographers have in their studios large collections of records, and that many of them play musical instruments and attend concerts regularly.

SUZANNE SZASZ
TWO heads are better than one” is an adage, the truthfulness of which has often been questioned. However, when the word “pictures” is substituted for “heads” in the above expression it is unanimously accepted by cameramen as valid, providing the photographs used are tied together to tell a story.

ARE YOU completely satisfied with the portraits that you make with your miniature camera? Do you feel envious of the boys with the big cameras since they can retouch their negatives while you cannot? Don’t begrudge the professionals their large equipment, for it is not only possible to make large professional-looking portraits with your miniature, but you also can retouch your work for finer results.

EVERYDAY SCIENCE IN PICTURES

KENNETH M. SWEZEY
LOOKING FOR NEW CONQUESTS in photography? Then, why not use your camera to help explain some of the basic workings of science? Demonstrations of many of the classic principles of physics and chemistry make challenging subject matter. The taking of photographs showing the workings of present-day chemical processes, mechanical inventions, and medical discoveries can prove as exciting as the taking of the most dramatic human interest subjects—and fully as taxing on your resourcefulness and imagination.

Leonard Burrell
IN THE MANUFACTURER’S sphere, things have been far from quiet here. To begin with, Ilford Ltd. released trial lengths of their new 35-mm colour film to trade officials and the trade press. This film has certainly been a long time coming. We first heard of its existence in experimental form about the middle of 1947, but one thing and another seems to have delayed production because, since then, we’ve been just waiting.

HOW TO MAKE A LEGEND PRINTER
You can easily identify all your prints by making this simple printer for the darkroom
[no value]

MANLY BANISTER
PROOF Positive—if the slogan is good enough for cigarettes, it should be good enough for your prints. Don’t let people wonder who made that excellent print—identify it with your name, brand, or trade-mark in the lower right margin. If you’re an amateur or a professional who habitually stamps or writes name and address on the back of every print, you may be surprised to know how few people turn a print over to see what’s on the back.

While disassembling a camera shutter, I had quite a job keeping the small screws and parts in order. Either they would roll off the table or would be mixed up. A time saver is a small wood block on which is glued a piece of adhesive tape. Either ordinary glue or rubber cement can be used.
