I've been calling this issue the international-up-and-coming-young-so-and-sos issue—coined due to the large number of artists in this issue that I was completely unaware of. How cool is that? In traveling more than 20,000 miles all over the country this last year, I've met hundreds of talented and inspiring tattoo artists—and there are still so many buzzing away that I have yet to discover and share with you.
What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing around 1992 or 1993. How did you get into tattooing? I was into trash metal music and many of my favorite musicians had tattoos. I wanted one so bad but no one made 'em so I figured that a toy's motor and a mechanical pencil could push the ink, so I made my first tattoos on myself with that home machine.
What year did you start tattooing? I started dabbling with tattoos in 1994.1 was learning as much as I could and rounding up all my guinea pig friends to sacrifice their skin. I was traveling a lot and learning in different shops. But I didn't get fully focused until about 1998.
What year did you start tattooing? Jeez, you're making me do maths here (not my strong point). The year I started to tattoo was 1999. How did you get into tattooing? I started out at a shop in Brisbane called Wild at Heart. I was privileged to work with many inspiring and talented artists in my time there.
What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing professionally in 2003. How did you get into tattooing? I started getting tattooed by my friend Mike Page in 1993, when I was 1 6 years old. It was in Massachusetts and at that time tattooing was still illegal in the state.
What year did you start tattooing? 2000. How did you get into tattooing? I was first exposed to tattooing while watching my dad get illustrations tattooed on him that I had been drawing around the time of junior high, early high school. Where did you apprentice?
What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing around 1995 or 1996. Where did you apprentice? How did you get into tattooing? I was apprenticing at Turnpike Tattoo in Meriden, CT. I had recently graduated from the Connecticut Institute of Art in Greenwich, CT, and had become obsessed with learning to tattoo.
What year did you start tattooing? I started work 8 years ago in Korea. How did you get into tattooing? I met a guy who was a tattooist but who could not draw. He needed someone to draw the design on skin. I started as a drawer, then a few months later started tattooing.
When did you start tattooing? It's been eight years now since I first became interested in tattooing. But all these years I could tattoo just on weekends, because until this May I was studying design. So basically professionally, I've only been tattooing half a year.
When did you start tattooing? I started tattooing in April of 2008. How did you get into tattooing? The way I got into tattooing is funny. I was going to school for graphic design, but I knew I didn't want to have a regular job. That's when I started getting tattooed.
What year did you start tattooing? I left my computer business back in 2005 to pursue my dream of making art for a living. I started my apprenticeship in early 2006 and it has been a blast so far! How did you get into tattooing? Well, I have always fancied myself a creator of sorts.
What year did you start tattooing? I started my apprenticeship in late December 2005. I started tattooing professionally in 2006 so I have been tattooing for six years now. How did you get into tattooing? It all started when I looked at a tattoo magazine at a young age.
What year did you start tattooing? In May of 1998, I started working at Eccentric Tattoo in Japan. After eight years of working there, I opened my own shop. How did you get into tattooing? At Eccentric Tattoo, I started out drawing designs every day.
What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing in the summer of 2003. How did you get into tattooing? I'm pretty sure I have the same teenaged misfit "skateboarding to punk rock to hardcore shows to graffiti to getting tattooed a lot" story as 90 percent of every other tattooer out there, ha ha.

Needles, ink, blood, and cash! The 10th annual Lady Luck Tattoo Expo in Reno, NV, is in the books. Ink slingers from all over the country converged upon Reno—bad economy be damned—to strut their mastery of machines on flesh, featuring three convention halls with so many tattoo machines buzzing that a blind person might mistake it for a marital aid convention.
Sailor Jerry Saved the Day for sure this year for our beloved Marshall and Dawn Bennett. Foolish Pride Tattoo Co. in St. Petersburg, FL, hosted a benefit event to help raise some needed money for the family that lost their home to a fire over the holidays.
In its 11th year, the Full Moon Tattoo & Horror Festival was bigger and better than ever! Guests filled the Nashville Convention Center April 4-6 to meet their favorite horror celebrities like Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees), Leslie Easterbrook and Ken Foree (The Devil's Rejects), Norman Reedus (Walking Dead), and Kristin Bauer van Straten (True Blood).
