I shot my first assignment for INKED two years ago in October: a Halloween party at Paul Booth’s legendary Last Rites tattoo theater and gallery. I entered through thick red velvet curtains and was met by hooded figures in black robes to escort me into what felt like a party held in the depths of Paul Booth’s diabolical mind.

What year did you start tattooing? I started my apprenticeship in 1995 and began tattooing in 1997. How did you get into tattooing? I was actually getting tattooed by Jerry Issel at Studio Zee and we got to talking. He asked if I had any interest in learning to tattoo.

What year did you start tattooing? 1995. How did you get into tattooing? The hard way. Where did you apprentice? I did a short apprenticeship in Owatonna, MN, and then learned most of what I know from other artists I would meet along the way. At that time tattooists were just starting to share information, but I still attribute most of my knowledge to traveling and meeting and working with new artists.

What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing in summer of 2004. How did you get into tattooing? Born and raised in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico, after finishing high school, my goal at the time was to move to Hawaii—to live there, and to conquer my dream of surfing the North Shore of Oahu.

What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing in 2000. How did you get into tattooing? Tattooing came to choose me. Where did you apprentice? I didn't have a formal apprenticeship. I started to get involved in a shop by just hanging around.

What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing around 1995, 1996. How did you get into tattooing? At the age of 17 I had the pleasure of doing a rather rigorous apprenticeship under a man they call “Foot Long" Frank Romano. He took me under his wing and I tattooed with him for 10 years.

What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing in 1993. How did you get into tattooing? I had always been interested in tattooing ever since I was a kid. I attempted some stick-and-poke tattoos on myself and my friends. Later on, when I was a teenager, I attempted to make a couple of my own tattoo machines.

What year did you start tattooing? In 2000. How did you get into tattooing? Through Adam Craft in New Zealand. Where did you apprentice? I apprenticed for about two years in Auckland before I tattooed paying customers. Adam Craft and Aaron Stradwick are the main people that taught me in the beginning.

What year did you start tattooing? I believe it was 1988, pretty close to Halloween. How did you get into tattooing? I was residing in Hell at the time. I had taken up painting to try and kill the boredom, and after a while Satan had taken notice and honestly just would not stop bugging me about it.

What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing in 2001. How did you get into tattooing? I was always interested in tattooing for as long as I could remember, but I never thought I could actually see myself tattooing because at that time It seemed like such a closed-off, carefully guarded art form, so I just never pursued It.

What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing in the early '90s, back when there were no tattoo magazines at all in Europe and no internet to show you how to set up your own tattoo machine. How did you get into tattooing? When I was a teenager I was fascinated by these blue marks that older guys had on their hands and arms.

What year did you start tattooing? How did you get started? I started tattooing in the year 2000; I was in college at the time and all of my friends started getting tattooed. I was always drawing so everyone started asking me to design their tattoos—I didn't really know anything about tattoos so I would draw this atrocious garbage, ha ha.

What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing in 2004. How did you get into tattooing? I was an art major with a focus in oil painting. Honestly, there wasn't much future in that for me. Having my neck tattooed already wasn’t going to land me a teaching job or a spot restoring paintings for museums.

What brought us to Boston? Four days of bikinis, tattoos, and killer artists. Gorgeous, bikini-clad Inked Girls fiercely fought for the title of Miss Boston Ink as machines buzzed on the convention floor. Natan coordinated the truly inspiring and thought-provoking Horimasa tebori seminar that gave attendees an inside look at historical Japanese theories and traditions in the art of hand-poke tattooing.

From the carnival that set the stage to the famous Wisconsin beer, cheese, and beef, this year's convention was an allaround showcase. It featured a suspension show by sexy Crash that would make your grandma blush, plus a new element that made the weekend even better—a beer festival adjacent to the convention floor to keep attendees extra entertained during the show.

INKED spent an amazing few days at the Full Moon Tattoo & Horror Festival in Nashville, TN, May 13 to 15. In its 10th year, the festival was the perfect mix of horror and tattoos. From those excited to meet their favorite horror film stars to those looking for some new ink, we had an awesome time meeting and mixing with tattooers and big film legends like Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Tyler Mane (Halloween), Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses), and, of course, Gary Busey.
