For our second issue of FRESHLY INKED we're excited to present to you a wide variety of artists we admire: Noon (page 8) can be found tattooing his abstract ideas in any one of six countries at a given time; Tim Hendricks (page 56), our favorite West Coast custom tattooer, can now be found right here in our own backyard at the new Wooster Street Social Club; Jun Cha (page 20), a significant player on the talented team at Lowrider Tattoo—and that’s just scratching the surface.

What year did you start tattooing? 1996. How did you get into tattooing? I grew up in an environment where lots of people were tattooed, and as soon as I knew how to fix ink under the skin, I started tattooing. It was by hand at that time. In 1996, I met a guy that gave me the address of Micky Scharpz in England.

What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing the summer of 2001. How did you get into tattooing? I was always good at drawing, and I thought it would be a good way to continue doing what I loved and make some money. I was lucky to meet tattooists that thought I was good enough and gave me a chance.

What year did you start tattooing? About five to six years ago, around age 16. How did you get into tattooing? I was introduced to black-and-gray tattooing mostly of the surrounding L.A. culture. I was doing art at an early age, so tattooing became another medium for me to explore, and gradually interest became complete commitment.

What year did you start tattooing? Around the mid-’90s I did my first couple of tattoos on myself and a few friends, encouraged by a good friend back then, Mike Ledger. But because of paranoia of bikers and the fact that I was busy starting up as an independent graphic designer I didn’t make much out of it before the beginning of the new millennium, when I started taking in paying customers and doing less computer graphics.

How did you get into tattooing? I guess you could say I got into tattoos long before I got into actually tattooing. As a kid I remember admiring tattoos on guys I looked up to, like musicians, skateboarders, local maniacs—ha! And that was it—no big mystery.

What year did you start tattooing? I started tattooing in 2003. I was 19 and was working as a piercer/counter guy at a tattoo shop. How did you get into tattooing? I’d say I really started getting more into tattoos when I was in junior high. A friend's mom used to work at a 7-11, and she would bring home magazines for us to look at, like Tattoo.
