Harry J. Anslinger is rolling in his grave right now. Up above him on terra firma, his life's work is being dismantled, and the yellow fingernails of his long-dead hands are no doubt clawing at the pillowed satin lining of his coffin. If his skeleton were able to dig its way through the six feet of earth that separates Harry from us, I believe the first commissioner of the Treasury Department’s Federal Bureau of Narcotics would be apoplectic at the sight of what is now happening to his racist fantasy of “Reefer Madness.”
I picked up a piece of history recently and would like to see what you know about it. A lady sold me what appears to be a large block of hash, which she told me her brother had sent to her back when he was fighting in the Vietnam War (he later died there).
VERY STONED WITH SLIGHTLY STOOPID The HotBox Party at legendary Red Rocks sponsored by High Times and GrowLife Inc. featured performances by Tribal Seeds, Cypress Hill and of course, Slightly Stoopid. Their epic set began with the band exiting a smoke-filled Mystery Machine and ending with over 10,000 happy fans more than slightly stoned.
For decades, the US government has invested in antidrug programs that target school-age children. And they’ve proven to be an epic failure.

In many instances, anti-drug programs are our children’s first encounter with the cannabis leaf and other archetypal drug imagery. The image of the evil leaf is stamped indelibly on the child’s visual memory, sharing cerebral space with favorite toys and cartoon characters.

Arizona’s cannabis laws are more ancient than the Grand Canyon. It’s the only state still prosecuting petty pot possession as a felony. First-timers generally get offered probation, but even being busted with a modest amount can earn you 18 months behind bars and a $150,000 fine.
It's not unusual for those who smoke pot and cigarettes to say that they crave the latter more fiendishly after getting high. Although there's been only anecdotal evidence concerning this phenomenon to date, a new study—courtesy of the Feds—has produced some unsettling results for pot smokers addicted to nicotine.
Dog owners who are also pot smokers often wonder about the effect of the herb on their pets. It's a contentious issue: Some say their pets actually "like" pot, while others rail against the very idea, arguing that since pets can't give their consent, it's morally wrong to alter their consciousness.
In Mexico, poppy production—the plant that supplies the base for heroin—is rapidly supplanting cannabis, according to Fox News Latino and the investigative website Animal Politico. In 2012, anti-drug enforcement actions in Mexico destroyed 40 percent more poppy plants nationwide than pot plants, according to the Mexican defense ministry.
A majority of Americans now support legal recreational marijuana. According to an April survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, a record 52 percent of the 1,501 adults polled nationwide agreed that pot should be legal, with only 45 percent opposed.
When pitted against conventional anti-nausea drugs, “marijuana wins hands down.” So says Dr. Phillip Leveque, who helped to craft Oregon’s 1998 medical marijuana law and, at age 90, remains a tireless advocate for the medicinal use of pot.
From now on, we’re shopping where Rachel McAdams buys her groceries! The Canadian actress was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and recounted her recent experience with medical pot. She was shopping in her local Toronto grocery and told a worker she was having trouble sleeping.
Activists in Alaska want a legalization initiative on next year’s ballot, a proposal to make it legal for those 21 and older to use and possess pot, though not in public. The state once allowed legal, adult but in 2006 criminalized even small amounts.
At the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner in April, President Obama once again demonstrated that he’s completely out of touch with pot politics. Traditionally, the Prez yuks it up at the event. In his speech, Obama joked: “The media landscape is changing so rapidly.
On May 2, Maryland became the 19th state to approve a medical marijuana program when Governor Martin O’Malley signed the measure. The bill allows academic medical research centers to establish programs to dispense marijuana to sick patients.

Miles and Kyle sat down with High Times on the ultimate stoner holiday before the most epic of shows to talk favorite strains, legalization and the pot economy. It’s so awesome to be here with you guys on 4/20. How’s it been so far? Miles: I’ve been stallin’ out smoking weed just ’cause I gotta sing in two hours and there’s so much good bud...it’s been the hardest day of my life!
A hearty congratulations to our first ever Latina Miss High Times Yvette Marie Ramirez! Our former Miss November 2012 joined four of her fellow finalists on stage at the U.S. Cannabis Cup awards show in Denver, where her predecessors Emily (Miss HT 2012) and Clazina (2011) passed down the crown and sash to our lovely new beauty queen.
Float, the latest album by Styles P, dropped on 4/16. But as far as Styles is considered, the release party happened on 4/20, which included a trip to the first High Times US Cannabis Cup in Colorado. In case you haven’t guessed, Styles P is a true stoner’s rapper: His mixtapes and albums are gritty, grimy high as a kite and packed with beast NYC beats. Float, produced entirely by Scram Jones, is all of that and a bag of dank—especially since the label was High Times Records, in conjunction with Nature Sounds. HT caught up with Styles P before his New York City release show, which was dope all around.

As usual, Woody Allen—the Mahatma of Midwood, Brooklyn—reveals Great Truth. In a scene from his classic Annie Hall, Allen’s character is at the Source, a vegetarian restaurant in the sun-soaked capital of crap called Los Angeles, and orders “alfalfa sprouts and mashed yeast” with a grimace.

Accorcling to Isaac Newton, an object in motion will not change its direction or velocity unless an external force acts upon it. The marijuana community knows something about that. We’ve set the buds—er, ball—in motion. And we continue to push, accelerating pot’s favorability across the country.
With all the cheap booze and killer concerts at Austin’s South by Southwest music festival, one hardly needs an excuse like St. Patrick’s Day to get wasted. But when our annual Doobie Awards party happened to coincide with the holiday this year, it was an entirely different green that we were celebrating.
The CIA tried to use it as a weapon; self-appointed shamans claim that it brings people closer to God; psychiatrists argue for its therapeutic potential; and ordinary citizens have been dosing themselves for decades simply because they like the high. The last time I saw Dr. Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who invented LSD, he was keynoting to a packed house in a large auditorium in Basel, Switzerland. It was January 2006, and Hofmann had just turned 100 years old. A small, slightly stooped spry man with wisps of white hair, he stood onstage without a cane or walker and spoke to more than 1,000 people at the international symposium being held in his honor.

We grow a variety of in-house strains. They’re our intellectual property, our blood and sweat. I’ve been collecting genetics since the ’90s. We have 20 proprietary strains and 28 patients who rely on them as their daily medication. As for soil, we amend it with a lot of sheep manure and aerate it with perlite and soiless mix.
