The threat level is rising as the quality of hydroponic ganja continues to elevate. Organic tokers like myself are scrambling to find new ways of detecting the new “high-grade" hydro. A lack of taste, scratchy throat, or heavy ash are the usual suspects that commonly identify the “Dro," as it’s sometimes called.
I want to thank HIGH TIMES for the incredibly informative, well-written, and non-biased article on Joan of Arc (“The Hidden Truth Behind Joan of Arc,” Jul.’03 HT). Not only was it an eye-opener regarding her life, but also regarding elements in the history of the Christian church’s attempt to snuff out paganism over the years and the history of psychoactive plants in various contexts.
Darin Selby glides through the hippiefied streets of Woodstock, NY, with his legs dangling from the pilot's perch of the magnificent, rickshaw-like vehicle he has baptized the “Skeedaddlehopper.” He transports visiting tourists and children around town from what looks like the prow of the contraption.
At the age of 20, glassblowing superstar Jason Lee was wandering through a series of McJobs when he stumbled upon the art of glassblowing. Eight and a half years later, he stands as one of the glass industry's top artists. He was born in Berkeley, grew up in Oregon—where the modem glass industry was reborn—and spent the past few years in Seattle, blowing his way to stardom.
Todd McCormick has now served four years of a five-year prison sentence. In 1997, he was at the center of a federal raid on a house in Bel Air, CA, where he was cultivating thousands of clones for medical research. In the wreckage that followed, his partner, author Peter McWilliams, died after being denied marijuana for his AIDS/cancer condition.

Mary Jane has popped up in our pages a few times already. She's a throwback to the glamour-queen models of a bygone era and has fashioned her allure with a heavy reliance on the legend of Betty Page. But what makes Mary Jane's appeal especially unique is her unabashed passion for her namesake.

A NEW WAVE OF 60S-STYLE ROCKERS IS BURNING UP THE CHARTS.
America’s response to the '60s British Invasion was a slew of cheaply recorded one-shot singles by garage-rock bands like the Knicker-bockers (the Beatlesque “Lies”) and the Standells (the bluesy “Dirty Water”). Dozens of these stripped-down songs reached the charts in 1966 and 1967, including such classics as “Wild Thing” (the Troggs), “96 Tears” (?

Enter the Matrix is the game the X-Box was made for. Four million games have already been produced, and over a million copies were snapped up by Matrix fans in the first week of release. I’ve already spent many happily stoned hours waging cyber-war against the evil machine empire and its dastardly minions, helping the “One” defend the imperiled last bastion of humanity.

NEW YORK CITY—Police far outnumbered protesters at New York City's March for Cannabis Liberation on May 3, with only 200 to 300 people marching down Broadway and gathering at Battery Park. The one bright spot was that there was only one arrest—in contrast to previous years, when New York had more arrests than any of the weekend’s worldwide weed rallies.

SEATTLE—The healing properties of cannabis are well known among medical-marijuana users. It is widely believed that the War on Drugs was “declared" by Richard Nixon, but Nixon did not use the actual phrase “war on drugs” publicly. Bush): “We’re going to win the war on drugs.”
PIERRE-CLAUDE NOLIN: CANADA'S VOICE FOR LEGALIZATION
If you were to legalize marijuana in Canada, what kind of model would you use? Would it be sold in liquor stores? Would home-cultivation be allowed? The best model is how beer and wine are regulated in my province. In Quebec, you can make your own beer or wine for your own use and even to give it to your friends, but you are not allowed to sell it.
MONTREAL—Canada is set to decriminalize cannabis, but don’t toke easy just yet. Canadian officials vow that police will stop potheads more than before and crack down harder on growers and sellers. In this year's hydroponic roundup, you'll find everything the automated gardener could want. Let's face it, the main reasons one turns to hydroponics are precision and automation. Hydro gardeners view the growing process from a scientific perspective.
PLAN COLOMBIA SPILLOVER: CIVIL STRIFE IN BOLIVIA AND PERU
“On the worst days, there are sometimes more than 30,” Sister Carmen Rosa Perez says. “They come in to our church with nothing but their muchilas, backpacks. They’ve left everything to get out of Colombia. Or even worse, they come from our own border here in Ecuador.
Marijuana plants don’t care about the technology level or the expense of a garden. All plants care about is that their needs are met to the max 24/7. To demonstrate a simple, easy low-tech ebb-and-flow hydroponic system that gives plants and growers what they want, I took a look at Dutch gardens that were set up and maintained by an expert with lots of high-tech, hands-on experience.
Once a gear Telluride, Colorado, hosts four days of mycological madness. If you fanatsize about fungi, if you're psyched about Psilocybin, head to Colorado and get Rocky Mountain High.
If you’re traveling this August and you find yourself in need of a good freakout, then you might want to aim your steering wheel towards the western slope of the Rocky Mountains and check out a little get-together called the Telluride Mushroom Festival.

MPOCH/RHINOVERT Ontario CANADA I've been growing for three or four years now, and if it weren't for HIGH TIMES, I'd still be buying bog weed from the sharks in the streets.

MANIPULATING PLANT PERFORMANCE WITH PROFESSIONAL TEMPERATURE CONTROL
Growers know that ambient temperatures play an important role in plant development. You don't have to have a Ph.D. in plant physiology to understand that temperature determines the rate of bio-chemical reactions, the relative amount of products created by enzymes within plant cells, and those products’ transport and allocation in plant tissues.

I want to grow indoors and outdoors. I am confused with all the kits they sell in HIGH TIMES. I really don’t want to buy a book. I prefer a video that tells me the basic information. Is there a video you can recommend? Is there a hydro kit that I can forget about and just check once in a while?
September is still hot in most of North America and Europe. Southern regions are still very hot. Plants may still need to be shaded. Nighttime temperatures dip in northern climates, and plants may need protection if temperatures fall below 40°F. Growth slows substantially below 55°F. Water is necessary this month, especially if it has not rained recently.
