As you can surmise from our dramatically different appearance, HIGH TIMES has a new art director: Erik-Loren Council. Born in Manhattan 25 years ago, Erik attended Mt. Vernon High School and the State University of New York at Binghamton.
According to a letter in the December ’92 issue, you will get higher if you “wet your buds” and smoke them in a bong due to the fact that “it is the THC that gets vaporized that gets you high, not the THC that gets burned.” My question is, why is it that I can still get really stoned by smoking shitty, dry as bark commercial Mexi-weed?
Dr. Alex Paterson and Thrash are the Orb, Britain's spaciest sound system. The group's latest release is U.F. Orb (Big Time/Mercury). Asked to explain the difference between the Orb and the KLF, another UK synth 'n' sample unit, Paterson says: "They make commercial pop hits.

It has been 100 years since the massacre at Wounded Knee— historically considered the last great Indian battle. The US Cavalry’s high-tech Hotchkiss guns shredded 300 fleeing Sioux at the rate of a shell per second. The bodies were posed with, photographed, thrown into an open pit and buried.
It’s safe to say that since the publication of Naked Lunch in 1959, William S. Burroughs’ influence has spread like, well, a virus. For Burroughs, language is disease, and disease can be made grace or it can turn out bad sentences fat with confusion.
As Leonard Feather once put it: “Rock’n’roll appeals to morons of all ages, but especialy young morons,” which puts us in the field position for today’s lesson concerning the British Intrusion of 1964-66 in general and its most moronic (i.e., greatest) group—the mighty TROGGS! Whereas the Beatles had bounce and the Stones had swagger; the Yardbirds had sonic overload and the Dave Clark 5 had the emphatic Beat, the Troggs’ contribution to the Beat-boom was their unabashed leer.
Long known as one of hip-hop’s finest deejays and producers, Diamond has finally unleashed his own album. Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop is a slice of true hip-hop culture, New York-style—an old-school stunner many thought would never be heard again.

In the wake of Bill Clinton’s election to the White House, drug policy activists are balancing optimism and skepticism about the incoming administration. While Clinton’s campaign seemed hardly less intolerant than that of his contenders, several hopeful signals have emerged—which could indicate that Clinton played the game of realpolitik in order to get elected, but that the new regime may nonetheless allow more access for activists and unorthodox ideas.
WARNING: PARTNERSHIP BS MAY BE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH
FERGIE’S POT DEALER TALKS
I CANNOT TELL A LIE
In a release put out by The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, the effects of LSD were described in the following words: “Acid users don’t know whether it will be this dose, or the next dose, or some dose further down the line, but every long-term LSD user finds that one dose that will actually make his or her brain explode, cracking his or her skull and causing a fatal ‘trip.’” The name of this enlightening report?

When middle-class mike-fiend Keith Elam transported his young talent from Boston to Brooklyn in 1983, he brought with him the tag, Guru, for “Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal.” These days, neighborhood B-boys blast Guru’s lyrical lessons from booming systems.
Hip-hop is not just music. Rap is only one facet of a vibrant culture that includes art, dance, fashion and attitude. Even if break-dancing has been long forgotten by the media and the subways are buffed clean, hip-hop still means spinning on your head on a square of cardboard, writing your name on a wall, outfitting your car with ungodly booming watts, or sporting saggy-ass jeans, Natural High t-shirts and sneakers that always look like they just came straight out of the box.
IS SYRIA’S OCCUPATION ARMY IN LEBANON CRUSHING THE HASHISH TRADE ONLY TO PROTECT ITS OWN PROFITS FROM HEROIN? AND WHY IS WASHINGTON TURNING A BLIND EYE?
LEBANON: DRUG TRAFFICKING AND MILITARY OCCUPATION
“It is finished. It’s finished. There is no hashish in Youmooni anymore, because soldiers of Lebanon and Syria together destroyed it.” So said Ali Shreif, a poor cannabis farmer in Youmooni, a village in Lebanon’s fertile Bekaa Valley, in an interview with National Public Radio last August.
Ari Ben-Menashe is more than just another spy-who-came-infrom-the-COld. After his 1989 arrest in a US Customs Department sting on charges of trafficking arms to Iran, the Israeli government denied knowing anything about him. But after procuring documents showing that he had in fact been an Israeli agent, Ben-Menashe won his case by arguing that the arms deals were Israeli intelligence operations— sanctioned by the CIA. He claims to be the man who leaked the story of the White House arms deals with Iran back in 1986, thereby blowing Irangate open.

HOW TO TAKE THE OFFENSIVE IN THE ACTIVE RESISTANCE:
RICHARD COWAN NATIONAL DIRECTOR
We have a new President of the United States, which presents us with a unique opportunity. During the election campaign there was much talk about change, but the only talk about marijuana consisted of jokes about inhaling. This is the first change that we must make.
This was my first time growing indoors. I was surprised at what I could do with some reading skills and a few great books. Total harvest was 4-1/4 oz out of three plants. The plants were sown November 1 and the buds were harvested January 6. I used worm castings, bat guano and potting soil.
The first time I smoked up the Ganja Weed was a long, long time ago. Ever since, Babylon has fought against me at every turn— always something or someone trying to fight against Natty Dreadlock. My experiences have been like those of my brothers and sisters involved with the Hip-Hop scene.
The United States began as a bold experiment in fair representational government. When these rebel hemp farmers had a point, they drove it home: Fuck you and your crown, George! Today we elect a man who says pot can never be decriminalized because he once narced on his brother.
