Crawling along in front of me was an 18-wheeler that kept slowing down. Snorting along behind me was an 18wheeler that kept speeding up. The road was a broken, narrow, two-lane relic permanently bisected by an inviolate double yellow line.
Your preview on the '84 Yamaha RZ350 concluded more than a year's worth of research into government EPA regulations and international custom laws regarding the import of the this bike of my dreams. No more futile schemes, legal or otherwise, to obtain a two-stroke pavement burner.

The Harley-Davidson Motor Co. An Official Eighty-Year History
When you know what you want to see, sometimes you see what isn’t there. When I first read this book, I was disappointed. There’s never been what I would consider a real, complete, satisfying book about the Harley-Davidson. So I began anticipating this book when I heard it was in the works, and I rushed home and curled up with the book the day it arrived .
Ten months ago, President Reagan granted Harley-Davidson's request for a five-year trade penalty to discourage importation of large-displacement motorcycles from Japan. Reagan's order immediately boosted the tariff on imports of motorcycles with engines displacing more than 699cc, raising it from 4.4 percent to 49.4 percent-an increase of some 1100 percent.
One of the more enduring fantasies of motorcyclists is the construction of the partsbin special. That’s where a few bikers sit around and discuss what a great bike could be built using the engine from one model, the brakes from another, maybe the frame from a third, mixed with the styling of a fourth and then add a liberal topping of all the after-market goodies available.
Sometimes the longest trip begins with a really long trip...
The summer jobs were over and Donnelly and I were rich. Three months on a railroad section crew, shoveling gravel halfway from Milwaukee to the Twin Cities, had earned us each a tidy $1400. In 1967 that was a lot of money. It would pay for our room, board and tuition at college, with change left over for a few student luxuries like cigarettes, pizza and gas for our motorcycles.
Off come the wraps on the FJ1100, the 350 two-stroke and the sporting 600cc street bikes.
Suprise.Just as Cycle Worldo the first to announce Yamaha’s 1984 FJ 1100 superbike and the first to reveal the sporting two-stroke RZ350, so can we now admit we didn’t know everything. The scoops came from the Paris show. But, when Yamaha had its official, fullyattended session for the American press, there at trackside were more than we’d reported.
when the Swallow tire press release got to our office, we all had a big laugh. Swallow tires? What kind of name is Swallow? "Maybe you swallow hard entering the first turn when equipped with Swallow tires," someone suggested. A couple of weeks passed and then the Swallow tire rep dropped by for a visit, carrying a couple Swallow knobbies.
In the ever-changing world of off-road motorcycles, few brands remain Best in Class for more than a year or so. There has been one exception: Suzuki’s RM 125. It has been on top of the heap year after year. Being consistantly the best can turn a leader into a follower and that happened last year to the RM125.
Here’s the Harley-Davidson XLX, the no-frills Sportster. It seats one. It doesn't have a radiator, a shaft drive, banks of solid-state instruments. There are no multi-anythings; not valves, nor pistons. This test contains not one line about New!
Out on a deserted highway or along a twisty backwoods road, about the time the tach hits 7200 rpm in top, the Bimota SB4 is a work of art. It responds instantly, changing direction, accelerating, stopping violently. The rush of the wind makes the rider’s crouch natural; the engine revving toward redline leaves vibration behind; the attention speed commands makes the hard, barely-padded seat forgotten.
The biggest sporting Four on the market, and the smallest number of models.
Don't read just the headlines. In common with the others of the Big Four, Suzuki’s 1984 model line is shorter than it’s been for years. A lot shorter. Suzuki has only three designated 1984 road machines and six off-roaders. But don’t despair.
Yamaha’s Eddie Lawson won the produced-for-TV Superbikers race, riding a YZ490 to a decisive victory at Carlsbad Raceway in Southern California. Everybody knows that Lawson is a road racer, two-time AMA Superbike Champion, two-time AMA Formula Two Champion and new Team Marlboro Grand Prix star.
This may appear to be just another documentary work about a defunct British manufacturer, and that’s just what it is. Being too young to have ever experienced a new Enfield, I asked my uncle’s opinion of the various Enfields he has owned. He found his big Twin (an Indian Trailblazer 700) a reliable backup to the Vincents, Triumphs, and Nortons he struggled with, and was unable to recall any mechanical disasters that left him stranded far from home.
I am the owner of a 1977 Triumph T140V and would like to switch to Mikuni carbs. Could you tell me where I could purchase a set for my bike? Michael McKee Taylorville, 111. There are at least two sources for a Mikuni conversion kit. Big D Triumph (3600 West Davis, Dallas, Texas 75211, (214) 339-2285) offers a $200 kit that consists of two Mikuni carbs, intake tubes, air cleaners, twist grip, and throttle cables.
