Random chance, luck of the draw, the Grace of God, I don't know which. Begin with the stripped stud that meant I didn't ride home on the bike I planned to ride, but had to roll out the Suzuki GS450S that was waiting for some experimental work in the shop.

Just read your test on the Honda CB125 with great interest—as I just bought one. This seemed like an excellent around town bike, a good beginner bike and considerably more machine than a moped. I, too, don’t like the clutch. It makes starting on an incline a bit hairy.

Stephen Wright is a nice English gent now resident over here; for some reason he became interested in restoring old bikes (really old bikes) at which he does a marvelous job. In his travels he kept talking to sundry old souls who used to race here, there and everywhere and in the process of conversation brought out a collection of old photos, etc., plus the sort of memories that one just doesn’t get to hear any more.

RESTORING AND TUNING OF CLASSIC MOTORCYCLES

Henry N. Manney III
The title of this book is somewhat of a cheater, even if it is written by the cerebral Phil Irving MBE, a man who has brought to fruition more good ideas than we have had hot dinners. Jeff Clew wrote probably the best tome on the restoration end, even if it could have been two or three times as long, but of course he didn’t go much into the “tuning” part.

HOW, asked a reader, can a motorcyclist find a good mechanic? Next came a long pause around the office as we all sat thinking about that one, knowing it was a problem, but having never come quite to grips with it because we either do all our own work on our bikes or because we know good mechanics whom we’ve met racing or through our business.

Having a choice of models when shopping for a new motorcycle is really nice. And 250cc enduro riders are blessed and cursed with more choices than any other group. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, KTM, Maico, Can-Am and Husqvarna all make 250cc enduro machines.

Moto Guzzi isn’t as well known in this country as many of the other motorcycle manufacturers, but they have a history and tradition second to none. Carlo Guzzi and Giorgi Parodi started the company after World War I with (according to Geoff Wood), “a few employees, a water wheel-powered lathe and a lot of determination.” From 1921 to 1957, Moto Guzzis set 134 World Records and won 3329 international races and 14 World Championships.

Low and narrow handlebars are one of the more popular modifications, especially in these days of buckhorn bars coming standard on most road bikes. Low bars make sense, in that they let you lean into the wind, speed up the steering and generally add to the sporting level of sporting motorcycles.

I recently bought a 1978 Yamaha IT175 with 2150 mi. on it. Everything works fine except the monoshock. Being a 170 lb. rider, I like a slightly stiffer suspension. Both ends of my bike supply this, so fast riding and jumps are no problem. After a jump the landing is soft, but for some reason the monoshock will not return as normal.
