Vintage racing is not at all like the Real Thing. There I was, cranked full over in the sweeping righthander, aimed toward the apex, locked in a duel for 24th place and all I could think of was, Lord, ain’t that Vincent a strange machine. The Black Shadow, my rival of the moment, was cornering in a series of self-induced arcs, gronk, gronk, gronk.
This is a complaint, not about you. but TV. I watch "CHiPs" on our local station to humor my kids and it burns me up more each time I watch it. The side by side riding shown on every program is probably one of the worst parts. We just had a young man cream his new Gold Wing with the same process.
Looking at this pocket-book sized volume of some 328 pp, the reviewer is apt to say well there goes Bagnall trying to shift a lot of old rubbish out of the back of the warehouse again as the book is mostly about Harleys. Indians and Mustang semiscooters.
Waiting in line for gasoline last weekend. three test riders on a photo shoot had not read the U.S. Department of Energy’s Response Plan for reducing petroleum consumption. They didn't know that the amount of petroleum being produced and imported to this country exceeded the amount of petroleum products being consumed at that time.
One problem with being an athlete of any sort is the early age of retirement. Having been the fastest or strongest or most agile, it can be difficult for some athletes to step down from the throne and from the throne and take up a normal life with normal rewards replacing the honors of first place finishes.
When Kawasaki got back into the serious dirt bike business last year, the new machines were motocrossers, the KX125 and KX250. Not bad. either, so the enduro and play bike crowd naturally figured that when the Green Machine did some enduro machines, they'd be based on the motocross models, just like tradition calls for.
Pro Stock’s Top Team Has Come a Long Way in a Short While
Nine years ago. Byron Hines was lacing wheels for a living, had never worked as a mechanic, and had no experience building racing engines. Today, Hines, 29, is the performance mastermind behind Terry Vance's Pro Stock Suzuki, Russ Collins' 199.55 mph V-8 (built with two CB750 top ends) Top Fuel Honda, a blown single-engine GS1000 Top Fueler still being constructed for Vance, 25, to ride, and myriad R.C. products and modifications.
The R.C. Engineering Suzuki GS1000 built by Byron Hines and ridden by Terry Vance is the quickest and fastest Pro Stock motorcycle in the world. Vance used it to lower the class elapsed time (E.T.) and terminal speed records twice in 1978, first to 9.24 sec. at 144.92 mph.
Hondas's 500cc four-stroke has been wished for by many off-road and trail riders for several years. Everyone knew Honda had the technical knowledge and foresight to build a dynamite 500 class four-stroke the right way. Undoubtedly the engineers at Honda had closely studied the Baja-winning Bill Bell C&J Hondas.
They Promise a Lot, But Synthetics Aren't for Every Bike
Wanna get more horsepower, increase engine life, get better gas mileage, lower engine temperature, use less oil, and get easier starting? What an elixer that would take. Yet manufacturers of synthetic oils for four-strokes claim their products offer these and other benefits.
An Outrageous Price Gets You Not Only Flawless Function, But Also Craftsmanship Worthy of Artistic Mention
Thousands of Kawasaki owners throughout the world have been wondering for several years if somehow, somewhere there was a cure for the handling ills their bikes suffered at racetrack speeds. The Bimota KB1 comes hot on the tail of the ultra-radical cranked monoshocked, space framed, super-steering Suzuki SB2 special as the possible mass-production panacea for the four-cylinder Kawasakis.
Bell Helmet Company has always worked closely with racers. When they introduced the original Moto Star a few years back, it had the distinction of being the only helmet designed for the motocrosser and off-road racer/enthusiast. At the time accessory mouth guards were the rage.

An item in your May issue suggested ways of mixing different available grades of gasoline to obtain approximately 98 RON (Research Octane Number) for motorcycles needing leaded premium gas. How about engines with higher-than-stock compression ratios?
