What the woman looked like, I don't know. At the time she made herself known I was maybe three feet beyond her window, so I never did see her. I knew she was there. It was a loud voice. Angry, frustrated, and she gave me her best shot: “YER BREAKIN’ THE LAWRRR!” I was not.
I’d like to point out that the standard tactic of helmet law proponents is to ignore Constitutional arguments rather than face them. This is because they know Uncle Sam has no right to interfere with state law-making and that nowhere does the Constitution allow for self-protection laws.
I own a 1976 Honda 750A, purchased new, which has accumulated less than 8000 miles. My first problem began on day one and involved carburetion. This was repaired by Honda East in Dallas at a cost of $71. Mpg dropped to 30 from an average of over 40 mpg prior to the installation of larger jets and needles.
peter C. Vamvas, Cycle World's art director, was killed in a road crash February 24. He was on his way home from work. He was wearing a helmet and the bike was in top condition. We don't know how it happened. Peter was more than an art director, he was an artist, a designer, a photographer and a dedicated worker.
Motorcycle racing has extremes. Usually the racer's road wanders between peaks of elation and valleys of disappointment. Skip Aksland, now four years into a promising pro career, knows all about those peaks and valleys. He hit them all last year.
In a world of massproduced. all-purpose missiles, it’s heartening to see there’s still room for something as specialized and soul-stirring as a Ducati. Measured against the current crop of light-to-light pavement scorchers, these unique motorcycles may look to be a trifle short on oomph—but that’s a conclusion one discards as soon as the pavement begins to develop kinks.
It sounds a bit like Jabberwocky, but desmodromic valve actuation is post-Lewis Carroll and a good deal less mysterious—once you understand it. Desmodromy means positive valve control; one cam follower pushes the valve open, another one pulls it shut.
It was an accident he got the motorcycle at all. Oh, he had ridden bikes in high school—an old Harley Hummer, an Italian 125—and they had been fun. But really "into," as they said now, motorcycles? Never. He was sitting on the front porch . .
Steering Geometry: Why the Numbers Can’t Tell You What Everybody Knows
It seems so simple. You can look at a schematic of a motorcycle's front end and quickly pick apart the elements of steering geometry: rake and trail. It's fairly common knowledge. Rake is synonymous with steering head angle. usually measured in degrees from vertical.
Loctite Ribbon Epoxy is a two-part epoxy putty in tape form. Once the amount needed is torn off and kneaded together (when it tarns green, it is ready to work) it only needs to be pressed over the hole in a leaky gas tank. The putty hardens in a few hours. Ribbon Epoxy is claimed to plug leaks and hold broken parts together while it cures from a pliable putty-tape into a chemieally-resistant solid. For more information, contact Woodhill Permatex. Dept. If you ride a motorcycle at night, you need a headlight. If you ride an off-road bike at night. you need a headlight that works extremely well. It's a simple statement, but true. Most modern off-road bikes are severely deficient when it comes to lighting equipment.
If there's an axiom in engineering, it must be one stating the illogic of electrical systems. After all, it's all done by magic, right? Few of us have a really firm grasp on the whys and wherefores of electrical theory ... but that hasn’t stopped us from dabbling.
The Folks Who Brought Us All Those Multis Now Present Something Completely Different
How nice it is, after months of flashing speed, raw power, world records and dazzling race bikes, to come face to face with an honest, straightforward, contradiction: Honda’s CX500. The factory itself begins the conflict. The CX500 is described as being both a sports bike and a touring bike, which is sort of like being a big midget.
When a racer gets ready for a new bike the first brand he considers is the one that has been consistently winning. In the western desert the most consistent Open class winning brand has been Husqvarna. Husky has won 7 out of 10 Baja 1000s.
10,000 Miles Pass Quickly When the Bike Gets Faster and Faster
Goes to show what faith will do. When Kawasaki introduced the KZ650 late in 1976, the smaller-but-sporting version of the ol' Z-1 was an instant success. The factory sold all they could make, a factory-sponsored team took home a flock of speed records and CYCLE WORLD proclaimed the KZ650 the best middleweight roadster on the market.
Suzuki dropped a bomb on the competition when it introduced the RM series of motocross bikes a short three years ago. The RMs were just what the weekend racers wanted. There were 125. 250 and 370cc versions and they soon started winning races.
Road racing. they say, is the chess game of motorcycle sport, an arena for the thinking man. Naturally, it shares certain basic requirements with other forms of motorcycle competition. Moxie counts for a lot, for example, and a good built-in personal gyroscope is as useful on pavement as it is on dirt.

SOME BETTER IDEAS BY BOLGER
HOW BOLGER’S SUSPENSION WORKS
He commutes to his work down a wooden hallway that connects his workshop to the kitchen of his old colonial-style New England house. The house stands on a side street just off the village green in Barre, Massachusetts, one of those places where on summer nights the local band plays concerts for the citizenry.
The painted ponies we refer to here are motorcycles, and as Joni Mitchell implies in her ballad, nothing stays the same. One season your machine is the absolute last word in pavement scorchers, next time around it’s just another big displacement street honker.

IGNITION TROUBLE SHOOTING CHART
CARBURETION TROU BLESHOOTING CHART
In our March issue, we provided an out line for effective off-road engine troubleshooting. Its purpose was to aid the ill-fated dirt rider whose machine suffered mechanical maladies at an inopportune time or in a desolate area. By following directions outlined in one of two flow charts, most non-terminal malfunctions can be field repairable, enabling the rider to continue his ride, or at least limp back to his base camp.

If there's one single picture that emerges after an attempt at making some sense of the U.S. amateur road racing scene it's that there is no one single picture. Almost everyone seems to have his own idea of how a road race meeting ought to be conducted, and there is plenty of bickering going on among these various everyones.
Under some circumstances. a tank bag can be worth its weight in luggage racks. Tank bags explain themselves. They ride on the fuel tank, in front of the operator and within his view and control at all times, something that proves its worth about the second time your rain suit falls off the rack or your enduro jacket feeds itself to the sprocket.
Exceptions prove the rule. Hickman's Rain Handler has not been tested by this magazine, so strictly speaking this is a report on a new product rather than an evaluation. The report appears in this section because (1) the Rain Handler appears to be one of the best touring ideas in several years.
